DAN SELZER DJS NEW YORK CITY

Shocking news, I know. Actually, I don’t DJ as much as I used to but I hope to remedy that. Like I remedied my computer. You see, I got back from a week and a half in California to a computer that didn’t want to start, so I’ve spent the last week fixing it. Between the vacation and that, you can see why I haven’t kept up with my “one post a week” rule. But I’m back…with a vengeance. And this time it’s personal. Got some ideas for posts coming up, including a recap of my trip and a discussion of some of the records I bought out there. But that will have to wait, pretty busy this week, as you can see. Dazzle Ships with the aforementioned Tim Sweeney on Wednesday and Thursday night I’m joining Rok and DJ Jaclyn of the awesome Bangers for Bassment Bangers at 205 Club. Wednesday is for listening, Thursday is for dancing. Friday and the rest of the weekend is for recuporating because you know, weekends are for amateurs. Full details after the flyer.

1. Now that both Jeremy and I have been guests on Tim Sweeney’s internationally renowned radio show, Beats in Space, we figured we owed him the chance to play records somewhere that wasn’t a basement on the NYU campus. Tim has an extremely impressive resume including work with everyone from Steinski to the DFA, and made serious waves with his CD, Mix 3 on the RVNG label, a mix so influential it inspired a couple of hungry young DJs from Jersey with stars in their eyes and disco in their ears to attempt their own mix, Mix 4 on the RVNG label, and that mix was called Crazy Rhythms. Both CDs are still available from RVNG, by the way. While Tim has always been able to rock dance floors, his mixes and radio show have let him dig a bit deeper into his many crates. Meanwhile, I just got back from an epic record-shopping trip in California so I have plenty of new records to play for you, and I look forward to do so. Get some tacos on the way, enjoy the drink specials, and come hang out and listen to the cool music.

2. And you better relax wednesday night, because thursday night is a dance party. Believe or not, I don’t only play strange records for nerds and program internet radio stations for the pleasure of the bedridden, I actually play music specially chosen to make you dance. I don’t do it as much as I used to, and I certainly haven’t been doing it on weeknights. Who goes out on weeknights anymore? Didn’t we all move to Queens and start working a lot and going to bed at a respectable hour? I need to get out more often, and so do you, and here’s our chance. 205 Club is the place to be. At least thats what I hear. I haven’t been there since I DJ’d some kind of after-party or something back when it was called 6s and 8s or something. Now it’s 205 Club and Rub-N-Tug and Super Family and James *#&$^ Friedman and Jacques Renault and all the other cool DJs are playing there every night of the week, including the Bangers, who are kind enough to have me as a guest this Thursday. I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve got so much good music I want to play. I listen to it at home and on the iPod but that’s not enough. I want to play it loud. Disco. Electro. New Wave. Post-Punk. Italo. House. Techno. Hip House.
