THE NIGHTINGALES SUMMER TOUR 2007

The Nightingales, with special guests Christy & Emily, are touring Europe this summer. I can’t really recommend this show enough. Around the time we put out the Prefects CD we had the unique honor of setting up the Nightingales first shows in the US. We did one show at Rothko with The Victoria Lucas and Oxford Collapse, and in conjunction with Toddp, another at the Asterisk space with Tall Boys and Notekillers. I was a bit worried as one would be when a band hasn’t played in 1,000 years, but they put on some good shows. At the time, their drummer was Aaron Moore of Volcano the Bear, who’s an incredible musician. So, when a year or two later they decided to come back but with a new drummer, I was a bit worried. Luckily, he was replaced by Daren Garratt of Pram. I had been a big fan of Pram in college and even saw them, in Cleveland I think, or maybe Chicago? Anyway, if there’s anything I remembered about Pram, it was the drumming. In addition, a young new guitarist named Matt Wood joined Daren, Stephen Lowe on bass, Prefects guitarist Alan Apperley and the man himself, Robert Lloyd. The show I caught the second time around, at the Cake Shop, was one of the best rock shows I’d seen in years. They were incredibly tight, incredibly intense, totally noisy, angular and punk rock. They’ve got great new material, they’ve got kazoos for sale, and they’re playing with our good friends Christy & Emily, so what are you waiting for? Full tour details after the links.
